Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It was a thriller in Fort Wayne Saturday, as senior kicker Ben VonGunten lifted No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan over Saint Francis, with a time expiring field goal from 46 yards out. The Wildcats trailed just once in the contest, after USF went up one with 44 seconds left.
VonGunten was a perfect 3-for-3 in the field goals column, while averaging 42.6 punting yards with two landing inside the twenty.
INSIDE THE GAME
- Penalties cost both teams Saturday, with IWU committing 11 penalties for 148 free years. USF committed six, for 109 yards.
- After tying the game up with 44-seconds left, USF committed the most costly penalty of the day, throwing the ball into the suites resulting in a 15-yard penalty tacked onto the kickoff. IWU would capatilize in a big way, with Justin Johnson scampering to nearly the 50-yard line off the kickoff.
- IWU's first touchdown came off a Neil Campbell blocked field goal, returned nearly 65 yards to the house.
- Justin Johnson forced his third fumble of the season in the second quarter. Johnson also collected an interception in the contest, in which he returned for 34-yards. He also led all Wildcats with 11 tackles.
- Devodney Alford scored his ninth touchdown of the season with six seconds left in half, putting IWU up 10 at the break.
- IWU rushed for 122 yards on 33 carriers, the fourth time this season they have netted at least 100 rushing yards.
NEXT TIME OUT
- IWU returns home for their final regular-season game hosting Siena Heights.
- The Saints come to Marion, having won four of their last five contests.
