FORT WAYNE, Ind. –  Indiana Wesleyan Women's Basketball went a perfect 19-19 in the third quarter to secure an opening day 80-61 victory over Governors State at the Schaefer Center. 

The Wildcats finished with four in double digits, with Adrianna Trexler and Jordan Reid leading the way with 17 apiece. 

STARTING STRONG

• Freshman Jordan Reid and Maddie Lawrence showed out in their IWU debut. 
• Reid added seven rebounds and two assists to her 17 points.
• Lawrence went 9-9 from the charity stripe, finishing with 15 points and six rebounds.

INSIDE THE BOX

• Each team started cold, going a combined 6 for 24 in the first half, including 0 for nine from behind the arc. 
• The Wildcats lost the turnover battle 19-17 but were able to assist on 16 baskets to the Jaguars 8. 
• Indiana Wesleyan poured in 34 points in the third quarter building a 22 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 
• Crossroads League pre-season first-team members Anne Secrest and Dayton Groninger struggled in the opening game of their senior campaign combining for eight points and five rebounds.
• Gabby Suarez dished six assists and added 10 points in the victory.
• IWU shot 89.3% from the free-throw line going 25-28 to Governor State's 22-39 for 56.4%.

NEXT TIME OUT

• The Wildcats take the court tomorrow at 5 p.m. for the home opener verse Cardinal Stritch on the second day of the Indiana Tech Classic.
