Defense Lifts Men's Basketball Over Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan men’s basketball used 40 points off turnovers Tuesday, besting the Maple Leafs of Goshen College 95-67. The Wildcat defense forced the Maple Leafs to commit 23 turnovers, a season-high for Goshen.

 

INSIDE THE BOX

  • 13 Wildcats saw action in the contest with 10 scoring. IWU saw 26 points scored by their bench.
  • Kyle Mangas led the way with 22 points while adding six assists and five rebounds. It is the 13th time he has scored 20 or more in a game this season.
  • Seth Maxwell picked up his sixth double-double of the season, scoring 17 while grabbing 12 rebounds.
  • Canaan Coffey knocked down his 46th triple of the season, extending his streak to 16 games with at least one three. Prior to this is longest streak was 12 games. The senior sits 32 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

 

ICYMI

  • Kyle Mangas was named NAIA Player of the Week today, for the second time in his career. 
  • Mangas dropped 35 and 39 points last week, bringing his total to four games this season with 30 or more points. His 10 rebounds against Indiana Tech gave him his fifth double-double of the season.
  • On Saturday Mangas cemented his name in NAIA history collecting his 2,000-career point, becoming just the seventh player at Indiana Wesleyan to accomplish the feat.

 

NEXT TIME OUT

  • IWU heads to Spring Arbor Saturday, facing the 2019 NAIA National Champions.
  • SAU ranks fourth in the country in field goal percentage (51%), seventh in total rebound defense (30rbs) and eighth in free throw percentage (77%).
  • The Cougars are led by Paul Marandet, who is averaging 20 points and six assists per game.
  • The former teammate of Kyle Mangas, Marandet sits just 133 points from 2,000 in his career.
