Box Score MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball smothered the Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene Wednesday, allowing MVNU to score just 16 total points in the second half. IWU's defense allowed the Cougars to shoot just 28% from the field in the 57-48 Wildcat victory. IWU moves to 17-6 on the season and 8-3 in League play, with just seven games left in the regular season.
Dayton Groninger and Anne Secrest led the way for IWU, scoring 17 and 15 respectively. Secrest fell just one rebound short of collecting a double-double.
INSIDE THE BOX
- IWU was cold from deep in the first half, missing all four shots from deep. MVNU finished the half shooting 45% from deep, pouring in five of their 11 attempts.
- Indiana Wesleyan collected seven offensive boards in the first half, while Mt. Vernon Nazarene mustered one. Rebounds were nearly even at the half, with IWU edging MVNU 18-17.
- MVNU built their seven-point halftime lead, pouring in 19 points in the second half. MVNU led by as much as 12 in the first half, building their lead on a 12-4 run in the middle of the second quarter.
- Both teams continued to struggle from deep in the second half with IWU netting the lone three. MVNU missed all 15 of their shots from deep in the half.
- The Wildcats owned the paint, posting 40 points compared to the Cougars 14 paint points.
