Women's Basketball Knocks Off No. 21 Huntington

MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball picked up their second Top-25 win of the season, defeating No. 21 Huntington University, 59-52. Averaging just over 70 points a game, the Wildcat defense stifled the Foresters, holding them to just 52 points and 17 made shots, both season lows.

 

INSIDE THE BOX

  • It was ice cold in the first half from behind the arc, as both teams shot a combined 1-for-13. The Wildcats held the Foresters to just 20% shooting in the half, forcing three shot-clock violations. Indiana Wesleyan led 25-15 at the half.  
  • The Foresters chipped away in the third quarter, using a 10-0 run to shrink the Wildcat lead to seven. Indiana Wesleyan led by as much as 17 in the contest.
  • Averaging just under three made threes a game, Madison Davis has struggled lately, missing ten straight threes. The transfer ended the slump in the third quarter, giving IWU the 38-23 lead.
  • Huntington’s leading scorer Sarah Fryman was held to just 13 points on the night. On the season Fryman sits second in the country and first in the Crossroads League with 23.8 points per game.

 

NEXT TIME OUT

  • The Wildcats host Taylor University on Saturday, January 18 with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • The Trojans enter the contest ranked No. 5 in the country, boasting a record of 18-0. They are one of just two unbeaten teams in the country.
  • TU is led by Becca and Abby Buchs, who are both averaging 17 and 16 points per game, both career highs.
  • Taylor University ranks No. 1 in the country in three-point (41%) and free throw percentage (78%). On the season, they have made 216 three-pointers, the second-most in the country.
