MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan women’s soccer (7-1-1, 0-0 CL) avenged their 5-0 loss from a season ago Saturday, playing #11 Vanguard to a 0-0 tie. Freshman Sam Castaneda played big for the Wildcats, collecting 11 saves in 110 minutes of work setting a new career mark for saves in a match.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • The Lions fired off 24 shots Saturday, while the Wildcat took 19.
  • Vanguard keeper Haley Magana collected just one more save than Castaneda totaling 12.
  • It was all square from the corner kick side with both teams taking five.
  • Sydney Brown collected her fifth game of the season with five or more shots.
  • Lexis Garcia matched Brown’s five shots, eclipsing 200 career shots. In her last match, Garcia collected her 100th career shot on goal.

SEIFFERT PERSPECTIVE

  • Our women’s team really had another gritty battle today. We are really proud of their fight for the entire 110 minutes. That game really could have gone either way. It is good to see our team’s belief continue to grow in ourselves and to know that we can compete with anyone in this country. We still need to rest up and heal up as we get ready to begin conference play in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

WHAT’S NEXT

  • IWU starts Crossroads League play on Wednesday hosting Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 5 p.m.
