COLUMBIA, Mo. – Indiana Wesleyan volleyball plays spoiler again with a victory over #2 Columbia and Olivet Nazarene on the final day of the Columbia Invitational in Columbia, Mo. The Wildcats spoiled #1 Park’s day yesterday in a 3-1 win.
The Wildcats improve to 7-0, tying the best start to a season since 2012 when IWU defeated #3 Lee (Tenn.) and #20 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) to reach the mark of 7-0.
INSIDE THE BOX
- In the opening game of the day, IWU defeated Olivet Nazarene in straight sets, 25-9, 25-14 and 25-13. Alex Falcone recorded 23 assists while Marci Miller led the way with nine kills. The Wildcats also served eight aces in the team's sixth win of the year.
- Indiana Wesleyan then defeated #2 Columbia in the second game of the day in four sets, 25-19, 25-19, 31-33 and 25-19. The Wildcats held Columbia to a .197 attacking percentage with nine blocks in the match. Anna Collar and Kelly Miller led the offensive attack with 17 and 16 kills respectively. Falcone notched 54 assists for a new career-high.
- Rachel Klitzing, Hayvn Gates and Marci Miller earned all-tournament team honors. Klitzing tallied 46 kills in the four games while Gates had 75 digs and Miller recorded 44 kills.
SPOILER ALERT
- The Wildcats handed #2 Columbia their first loss of the 2019 season and their fifth loss in their last 40 matches. On Friday night with IWU’s victory over #1 Park, it was Park’s second loss in their last 40 games.
