Early Lead Sinks Football in Final Home Game

Box Score

MARION, Ind. – In their final home game of the season, Indiana Wesleyan football fell 33-21 to #2 Marian University. The Knights started the game off with 17 unanswered points before the Wildcats scored touchdowns in the second, third, and fourth quarters. IWU would give it one last-ditch effort, but a fumble would lead to six points for the Knights with time expiring.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • It was a busy day for Cameron Lauck, who sat a new career-high in tackles with 16. Josh Davidson was second for IWU with 14, followed by Adam Schantz who added ten.
  • Special teams had a field day with both Ben VonGunten firing off five punts and Marian’s Luke Frain firing off six. VonGunten edged Frain, averaging 35.8 yards per-punt while Frain averaged 27.3.
  • Indiana Wesleyan cut the Marian lead to ten with a blocked punt returned for a touchdown to end the half. Josh Fusco broke through the Marian line for the block, while Justin Johnson scooped it up for the score.
  • IWU finished the season, 4-1 at home bringing their all-time record at home to 8-2. With a win next week, IWU would match their record from a season ago.
