Football Edges Taylor, Spoils Trojan Homecoming

Box Score

MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan football collected the program's first Mid-States Football Association Mideast League victory Saturday, defeating Taylor University 14-13. The Wildcats would use two first-half touchdowns to spoil the Trojan homecoming celebration.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • IWU's first drive of the game would end with an interception, but a gamble on 4-1 during their second drive would set up the Wildcat's first score of the game. Jesse Deglow would pick up the first down on 4-1 with a six-yard run. Deglow would touch the ball on four straight plays, setting up a Zack Blair touchdown to Brayden Smith for the fourth time this season.

  • The Wildcats would collect their last touchdown of the evening, moving the ball 62 yards on seven plays setting up a Deglow rushing touchdown from nine yards out. All seven plays were running plays featuring three different running backs. IWU would never see a third-down during the drive.

  • Both teams were nearly even in total yards with both teams tossing for 118, and IWU edging TU in the rushing category 122-to-106. This is the second straight game IWU has outrushed their opponents.

  • Blair’s 20-attempts are his fewest in a game since week three in 2018 against Trinity Bible when he recorded two. IWU threw the ball just three times in that game, while the running backs touched the ball 45 times.

  • Adam Schantz would deliver huge for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, coming up with a massive tackle for a TU loss of three on the play. IWU gathered their second fourth-down stop of the game, with one play later forcing a Zac Saltzgaber incompletion. IWU secured three fourth-down stops in the contest.
