Softball Earns Split at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. -- The IWU-TU Rivalry Games sponsored by Marion General Hospital ended in a doubleheader split on Saturday between Indiana Wesleyan softball and Taylor (Ind.) in Upland. Kaisey Carson and Kristen Exposito both homered in a 10-7 victory in the opening game.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Indiana Wesleyan seemed to have built an insurmountable lead at 8-0 heading into the 5th inning. Kristen Exposito hit a 2-run shot in the 1st inning and IWU plated five runs on five hits and two errors in the 3rd inning.
  • Taylor staved off a mercy rule with two runs in the 5th inning for an 8-2 score. TU added three more in the 6th as it was suddenly 8-5.
  • Kaisey Carson put some breathing room between IWU and TU with a 2-run home run in the 7th for a 10-5 lead. TU scored twice in the home half of the 7th and had the tying run up to bat with one out. But Carson got a strikeout and fly out to end the game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Trojans plated seven runs in the 2nd inning for the early lead.
  • Kira Madl provided the lone Wildcat run with a solo home run in the 5th inning. But the Trojans scored twice in the home half of the frame for the mercy rule victory.
  • The Wildcats managed just three hits in the loss.

NEXT TIME OUT

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts Goshen (Ind.) on Monday at Wildcat Field. The Crossroads League doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
