Softball Uses Long Ball in Spring Arbor Sweep

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan softball rebounded with a pair of wins over visiting Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday at Wildcat Field. The Wildcats produced four home runs which accounted for 11 of the 12 runs they scored on the day.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game was scoreless until Indiana Wesleyan plated three runs in the 5th inning. Sara Kreitzer hit a 3-run home run with two outs for the 3-0 lead.
  • Indiana Wesleyan earned the run rule victory with five more runs in the 6th inning for the 8-0 win. Kaisey Carson drilled a 3-run home run and Alex Springer later followed with a 2-run walk-off home run.
  • Besides a home run, Carson threw a one-hit shutout in the circle for Indiana Wesleyan. Spring Arbor recorded their lone hit in the 5th inning.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Alex Springer hit a RBI double to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead after 3 innings.
  • The Cougars scored two runs on three hits and one error for a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th inning.
  • The Wildcats quickly answered in the home half of the 6th inning as Kaisey Carson crushed a 3-run home run for a 4-2 lead.
  • The Cougars led off the 7th inning with a single to bring the tying run to the plate. But reliever Danielle Munn retired the next three batters to record the save.

  • Indiana Wesleyan returns to action Monday vs. Saint Francis (Ind.) in a Crossroads League doubleheader. The first game begins at 3 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
