Bethel Hands Men?s Basketball Third Straight Loss

MARION, Ind. -- For the first time in five years No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball is riding a three game losing streak following an 88-84 setback to No. 14 Bethel (Ind.). IWU led by one with 2:25 remaining but Bethel ran off seven straight points to secure the win and give the Wildcats their first home loss of the season.

  • Indiana Wesleyan built an early 25-13 lead with 12:09 still remaining in the first half. Bethel roared back and used a 27-8 run to take a 40-33 advantage with 3:40 left before halftime.
  • The Wildcats used a 14-3 run midway through the second half to gain their first lead of the half at 69-65 with 8:16 left to play.
  • Grant Evans drilled a 3-pointer with 2:25 on the clock to give IWU an 80-79 lead. Bethel responded with seven straight points to lead 86-80 with 23 seconds left.
  • Bethel outrebounded Indiana Wesleyan 36-23 and outscored IWU 28-17 at the foul line.

COACH TONAGEL SAYS…

  • “We had some bad possessions when we could have extended the lead late. The execution was poor tonight and we weren’t on the same page and that cost us. At the end of the day we had a four point lead and we have to execute and we didn’t do that.”

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts No. 7 Taylor on Tuesday. The IWU-TU Rivalry Game sponsored by Marion General Hospital will take place in Luckey Arena at 7 p.m.
