Women?s Basketball Gets Defensive in Rout of Goshen

MARION, Ind. -- No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball showcased a strong defensive presence on Wednesday in a 60-32 win over visiting Goshen (Ind.). IWU allowed the lowest point totals in a quarter and a half this season and threatened to hold an opponent to the second lowest total in program history until Goshen scored late to avoid the mark.

  • Wednesday’s game marked the third annual ‘Black Out Child Trafficking’ game held in Luckey Arena. Destiny Rescue was in attendance as they partnered with Indiana Wesleyan to raise funds and awareness for rescuing children from slavery. This marked the first time the entire Crossroads League participated as all five women’s basketball games played on Wednesday took part in the event.
  • Indiana Wesleyan has won 14 straight home games vs. Goshen. The last Goshen win in Luckey Arena was on February 11, 2004.
  • Goshen was limited to just two first quarter points with no field goals. It is the fewest points in any quarter this year allowed by Indiana Wesleyan.
  • The Wildcats led the Maple Leafs 29-10 at halftime. The 10 points is the lowest total in a half this season for an IWU opponent.
  • Goshen had just 24 points with 2:30 left in the game but finished the game out on an 8-2 run. 25 points is the second lowest point total for the Indiana Wesleyan defense in program history.
  • The 32 points by Goshen is tied for the lowest by an IWU opponent this year. Bethel was also limited to 32 points on January 7, 2017.
  • Goshen shot 18.5-percent (10 of 54) on the night including just 11.1-percent (3 of 27) in the first half.
  • The Wildcats pulled down a season-best 51 rebounds. IWU had 11 different players grab at least one board.

     

COACH FORAKER SAYS…

  • “The defense was really spectacular tonight. They had two points in the first quarter and 10 at halftime. Goshen has three 35-percent shooters from 3-point range and Williams down underneath. Our defense was just fantastic tonight. I’m glad we don’t have to play against it.”

  • Indiana Wesleyan travels to Mishawaka, Indiana on Saturday to play Bethel (Ind.). Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
