INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Top-seed Marian (Ind.) defeated No. 3-seed Indiana Wesleyan University softball 7-1 in an elimination game on Saturday in the Crossroads League Tournament. Indiana Wesleyan now shifts its focus to the NCCAA as they host the regional tournament beginning on Monday at Wildcat Field.

What Went Down

• Marian had a big 3rd inning where they plated four runs on four hits. Morgan Burtron had the big hit in the inning with a two-run home run.
• The Knights added two more in the 5th inning and one more in the 6th inning to build a 7-0 advantage.
• Indiana Wesleyan scored their lone run in the 6th inning on a Marian error. Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) grounded out to the pitcher but her throw to first was wild which allowed pinch runner Karen DeYoung to score from second base.
• Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) each earned a pair of hits.
• Haley Nixon suffered the loss as she gave up four runs on four hits in 3.0 innings.
• Grace Lumpkin was the winning pitcher for the Knights. She allowed one unearned run on seven hits and two walks in 7.0 innings.

• Indiana Wesleyan will now focus on the NCCAA postseason. IWU hosts the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Wildcat Field. Grace (Ind.) and Oakland City (Ind.) battle in the opening game at 3 p.m. with the winner playing top-seed Indiana Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
