Softball Sweeps Goshen, Moves Win Streak to 14

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball had little issue in a sweep over visiting Goshen (Ind.) on Tuesday at Wildcat Field. IWU pounded out 24 hits to extend their win streak to 14 games, dating back to a sweep over Saint Francis (Ind.) on March 22.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored single runs in each of the first two innings. Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) had an RBI groundout and Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.) scored on an error.
  • Indiana Wesleyan plated six runs on seven hits in the third inning to extend their lead to 8-0.
  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.), Allison Bexell, Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.), Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.), Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.), and Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) all had one RBI in the third inning.
  • Goshen scored two runs in the fourth inning but Indiana Wesleyan responded with three runs in the home half for an 11-2 lead. Haley Nixon had a bases clearing double in the inning for the big hit for the Wildcats.
  • IWU nearly had the mercy rule in effect until Goshen scored three runs in the fifth inning.
  • Haley Nixon was the winning pitcher with two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings. She struck out eight Maple Leafs. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and 5 RBI.
  • Allison Bexell and Gabby Bogear each reached base three times.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Haley Nixon had a RBI double in the second inning for an early 1-0 lead.
  • Abby White (SR/Georgetown, Texas) and Allison Bexell recorded back-to-back RBI doubles to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
  • Allison Bexell earned another RBI double in the fifth inning. Gabby Bogear and Haley Nixon each had one more RBI in the fifth inning as Indiana Wesleyan built a 6-0 advantage.
  • Kaisey Carson earned the victory with 6.0 shutout innings. She surrendered three hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) pitched the final inning to help secure the shutout.
  • Kelsey Kooistra was 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
  • Allison Bexell finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Gabby Bogear added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored while Haley Nixon was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan is scheduled to host Wright State-Lake (Ohio) tomorrow at 3 p.m. The doubleheader will be played at Wildcat Field.
