Softball Earns Split at No. 17 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball gained a doubleheader split with league leader and No. 17-ranked Marian (Ind.). The two teams split their four game season series in what was the regular season finale for the Wildcats.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Marian struck early with two runs in the 1st inning on back-to-back doubles.
  • Indiana Wesleyan got one of those runs back in the 2nd inning for a 2-1 game. Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) crossed the plate on an error by the Marian shortstop.
  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) tied the game at two with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Later in the inning, Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) stole home on a double steal as Indiana Wesleyan 3-2.
  • Marian had two on in the 5th inning but failed to score.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) earned the win with two runs on six hits in 7.0 innings.
  • Sara Kreitzer was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • The Knights again scored first as they plated three runs in the third inning. All three runs crossed the plate on a home run.
  • The Wildcats quickly tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the 4th inning. The big hit was an Alex Springer two-run home run which followed a Kaisey Carson run on an error.
  • Carly Green drilled a home run in the 5th inning for a 4-3 MU lead. The home run was the eventual game-winner for the Knights.  
  • Kaisey Carson suffered the loss as she surrendered four runs in 5.0 innings.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan is now finished with the regular season. IWU begins postseason play on Wednesday, May 4 in the Crossroads League Tournament. Times and location will be announced at a later time so please check back for updates.
