Softball Posts Two Wins at Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball team now has 37 wins on the season after a sweep on the road at Goshen (Ind.). IWU maintains their lead over Huntington (Ind.) for second place in the league standings by virtue of having two more wins.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Abby White (SR/Georgetown, Texas) hit a two out single in the 2nd inning to give the Wildcats the early 1-0 lead.
  • Indiana Wesleyan added three runs in the 3rd inning for a 4-0 lead. Ellen DeYoung (JR/Redlands, CA) and Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) each scored on a wild pitch while Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) had an RBI groundout.
  • A Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) 2-run home run in the 4th inning put Indiana Wesleyan ahead 6-0.
  • Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) drilled a solo home run in the 7th inning. Kaylynn Rosen (SO/Huntington, Ind.) later followed with an RBI double and Lauren Buckley (FR/Centennial, CO) added a RBI singled for the 9-0 score.
  • Kaisey Carson earned the victory with no runs in 6.0 innings of work. She allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five.
  • Kaisey Carson and Lauren Buckley were the only two Wildcats with multi-hit efforts. Kelsey Kooistra had a hit and two walks.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan broke open a scoreless tie with a three run 5th inning. Lauren Buckley scored the first run on a Goshen error. Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.) later scored on a wild pitch and Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) produced a RBI groundout.
  • Goshen cut the deficit to a single run in the 6th inning with two runs on three this.
  • Indiana Wesleyan created an insurance run in the 6th inning on a Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) RBI double.
  • Goshen threatened in the 7th inning as the first two batters reached base and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt. But Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) earned a strikeout and then induced a game-ending pop up to the pitcher to end the game.
  • Haley Nixon pitched a complete game and allowed two runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
  • Sara Kreitzer and Kelsey Meyers each had two hits. Meyers reached base three times as she also drew a walk.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan ends the regular season on Friday at Crossroads League leader No. 17 Marian (Ind.). First pitch is at 3 p.m. in Indianapolis.
