Softball, Grace Split 1-Run Games on Senior Day

MARION, Ind. -- Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) celebrated Senior Day at Wildcat Field with a walk-off single to give Indiana Wesleyan University softball a 6-5 win in the opening game of the doubleheader. Grace responded with a 3-2 win in the nightcap for a split.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) drilled a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning to put Indiana Wesleyan ahead 2-0.
  • In the 4th inning, Grace tied the score 2-2 but in the home half Lauren Buckley (FR/Centennial, CO) reached base on an error which allowed Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) to give IWU a 3-2 cushion.
  • Grace hung a three spot in the 5th inning on three hits and one error to take a 5-3 lead which lasted to the 7th inning.
  • In the final inning, Indiana Wesleyan loaded the bases with one out. Alex Springer looped a two-run single to tie the score and Kelsey Meyers followed with a walk-off RBI single for the 6-5 victory.
  • Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) earned the win in relief. She did not surrender a run on two hits in 2.0 innings pitched. Starting pitcher Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) allowed five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in 5.0 innings.
  • Alex Springer finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.  

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • The Lancers plated two runs in the 1st inning and one more in the 2nd inning for the early 3-0 lead. All three runs were unearned as the Wildcats committed three errors.
  • The Wildcats rallied in the 6th inning as IWU loaded the bases with no outs. Gabby Bogear hit a two-run RBI single to close the deficit to 3-2.
  • The Lancers escaped without any more damage with a groundout, strikeout, and foul pop up.
  • Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) (12-2) took the loss with three unearned runs in 6.0 innings. She allowed four hits and two walks while striking out two.
  • Kaisey Carson, Haley Nixon, and Gabby Bogear all had two hits while Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) reached base with a pair of walks. Bogear knocked in both Wildcat runs.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan travels to Goshen (Ind.) to play a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
