Bats Blast Pilots in Softball Sweep

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball exploded for 24 runs on Tuesday as they easily dispatched Bethel (Ind.) in both ends of a doubleheader in Mishawaka, Indiana. Indiana Wesleyan amassed 30 hits and 6 home runs in the two games.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Indiana Wesleyan quickly put a run on the board with an Alex Springer RBI single in the 1st inning.
  • The IWU lead held into the 6th inning when Bethel tied the game 1-1 on a 2-out RBI single.
  • The Indiana Wesleyan bats finally came alive in the 7th inning with a seven spot. All seven runs crossed the plate with two outs.
  • Alex Springer started the 2-out rally with a 3-run home run. Kelsey Meyers and Sara Kreitzer followed with home runs as they went back-to-back-to-back. Haley Nixon and Gabby Bogear followed with RBI base hits for the 8-1 lead.
  • Haley Nixon (14-6) earned the win as she gave up one run on three hits in 6.0 innings.
  • Alex Springer was 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI while Kelsey Meyers was 3-for-4 with a home. Kelsey Kooistra finished 2-for-4

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored early and often in the big game two victory. The first two batters reached for the Wildcats and Alex Springer drove them home with her second 3-run blast of the afternoon.
  • The Wildcats put the game way out of reach with a 10-run 2nd inning to go ahead 13-0.
  • Kaisey Carson had two hits in the 10-run inning including a home run and three RBI.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored the 10 runs on 8 hits, 2 walks, and 2 Bethel errors.
  • Kaylynn Rosen capped the scoring with a 3-run home run in the 4th inning for the 16-0 final score.
  • Kaisey Carson (10-1) gained the win as she allowed no runs on two hits in 3.0 innings. She was also dangerous with the bat with a 4-for-5 performance which included a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Kelsey Kooistra was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Alex Springer was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Darcella Blakey contributed two hits with a pair of runs scored.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan takes a day off before returning to action at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Grace (Ind.). The Crossroads League doubleheader will be played in Winona Lake, Indiana.
