Softball Win Streak Reaches One Dozen

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball had a scheduled day off but Cleary (Mich.) called when they were en route to another game when that doubleheader was canceled. IWU obliged to host Cleary and swept them for their 12th consecutive win.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Cleary scored three runs on four hits for the early 3-0 first inning lead.
  • Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) drilled a 2-run home run in the fifth inning to cut the Cleary lead to one run at 3-2.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning trailing by one, Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) hit a 2-run walk-off double for the 4-3 victory.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) (10-5) pitched a complete game. She allowed three runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings. She did not allow a run over the final six innings.
  • Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) had the only multi-hit effort for either squad with a 2-for-3 performance. She scored a run and had a stolen base.
  • Kaisey Carson and Sara Kreitzer both had two RBI.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored in all four innings they came to bat en route to the 8-0 mercy rule victory.
  • Kaisey Carson hit a leadoff home run in the first inning while Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) followed later that frame with a 2-run home run. IWU led 3-0 after the first.
  • Kelsey Kooistra had a RBI groundout in the second inning for a 4-0 Wildcat lead.
  • Kelsey Meyers crushed her second 2-run home run of the night with a blast in the third inning as IWU gained a 6-0 lead.
  • Jenny Sharpe (SR/Dayton, Ohio) hit a RBI double and Kelsey Meyers had a RBI groundout in the fourth inning for the 8-0 score.
  • Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) pitched the first 4.0 innings and did not allow a run on one hit and one walk. Weaver struck out six. Janessa Guevara (SR/Lathrop, Calif.) pitched the final inning for the combined shutout.
  • Kelsey Meyers finished 2-for-3 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.
  • Kaisey Carson, Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.), and Lauren Buckley (FR/Centennial, CO) all had a pair of hits as IWU held a 9-2 advantage in hits.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan plays again tomorrow afternoon with a Crossroads League doubleheader at Grace (Ind.). First pitch is at 1 p.m. in Winona Lake, Indiana.
