Myers, Pitchers Lead Softball in Sweep at Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball pitching did not allow a run and surrendered just six hits in a doubleheader sweep at Spring Arbor (Mich.). Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) had a career-game in the nightcap with three home runs and nine RBIs as IWU handed SAU their first league losses of the season.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) had an RBI single and Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) hit an RBI sac fly in a two run sixth inning for the Wildcats. The two runs were the only ones in the opening game.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) made the two runs stand up as she was stellar in a complete game shutout. She allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five in 7.0 innings of work.
  • Indiana Wesleyan outhit Spring Arbor 13-2 in the game. IWU left 11 runners on base including leaving the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings.
  • Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) was 3-for-3 in the victory. Kaisey Carson, Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.), and Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) all added two hits.
  • The loss for Spring Arbor was the first Crossroads League defeat of the season.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Kelsey Meyers provided plenty of offense in game two. Meyers hit 4-for-4 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI.
  • Lauren Buckley (FR/Centennial, CO) was 2-for-2 with a walk and 4 runs scored.
  • Kaisey Carson added a 2-for-4 performance with a double and 2 runs scored while Gabby Bogear was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored in four of the five innings that came to bat. IWU had a four run first inning and then added three runs in the second and third innings for a 10-0 lead.
  • The Wildcats outhit the Cougars 16-4.
  • Kaisey Carson was stellar pitching as she allowed four hits and one walk in 4.0 innings while striking out three. Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) pitched the final inning and did not allow a baserunner.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan returns home to host Lourdes (Ohio) in a non-league game at Wildcat Field. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. on Thursday.
