Softball Sweeps Indiana Tech for Eight Game Win Streak

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball moved their win streak to eight in a row with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana Tech. Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) completed the sweep with a walk-off base hit in the eighth inning of game two for the 3-2 victory at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored in all four innings they came to bat. IWU had four runs in three of those innings.
  • The Wildcats scored the first 14 runs of the game as the Warriors added three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) pitched a complete game for the Wildcats. He allowed one earned run in 5.0 innings while five hits and no walks. She struck out three Warriors.
  • Indiana Wesleyan outhit Indiana Tech 16-5.
  • Sara Kreitzer and Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) each finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Kooistra had two stolen bases.
  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished 2-for-2 with 4 RBI while Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) was 2-for-2 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Alex Springer had a RBI triple in the first inning for the 1-0 Indiana Wesleyan lead.
  • Indiana Tech scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • Alex Springer added a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score 2-2. It was the final run until the eighth inning.
  • Kelsey Kooistra started the eighth inning on second base with the international tie breaker rule. She went to third on a bunt base hit by Kaisey Carson. Sara Kreitzer followed with an RBI walk-off single for the 3-2 victory.
  • Janessa Guevara (SR/Lathrop, Calif.) started and allowed two runs on three hits in 4.0 innings. Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) came in as a reliever and pitched the final 4.0 innings for the victory. She did not allow a run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
  • Alex Springer was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI while Kaisey Carson added a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League play on Tuesday at Spring Arbor (Mich.). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
