Softball Sweeps MVNU as Win Streak Moves to Six

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball limited Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) to just two runs on Friday in a doubleheader sweep. IWU has won six straight games this season to improve to 16-6 overall and 8-2 in the Crossroads League.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Indiana Wesleyan led 2-1 as they came to bat in the third inning. IWU scored four runs on four hits in the inning to pull away from MVNU early leading 6-1.
  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) each hit home runs in the third inning for the big hits in the frame.
  • The Wildcats added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 8-2 final score. Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) and Kelsey Meyers each had RBI base hits for the final two runs.
  • Haley Nixon was the winning pitcher as she gave up two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings. Janessa Guevara (SR/Lathrop, Calif.) did not allow a run as she pitched the seventh inning.
  • Haley Nixon was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI while Alex Springer and Kelsey Meyers each contributed 2 hits and 2 RBI. Abby White (SR/Georgetown, Texas) added a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
  • Amber Roth (SO/Shipshewana, Ind.) and Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.) each crossed the plate twice in the victory.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) hit a RBI single in the third inning in what would eventually become the game-winner.
  • Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning for a 2-0 Wildcat advantage.
  • Kaisey Carson drove in two more insurance runs in the sixth inning with a 2-run double to deep right-center field for a 4-0 lead.
  • Besides collecting two hits and three RBI at the plate, Kaisey Carson pitched six shutout innings to earn the win. She scattered four this and three walks while striking out six.
  • Carson and Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) had a combined shutout that took 148 pitches to accomplish.
  • Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) was 2-for-4 with two dobules.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts Indiana Tech at 12 p.m. on Monday in non-league action. The doubleheader will be played at home at Wildcat Field.
