Softball Wins Two More with Sweep of Bethel

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball team claimed their second sweep in two days with wins over Bethel (Ind.) at Wildcat Field. The Wildcats gained a 5-1 victory in the opener before winning 12-3 in a 5-inning mercy rule victory in the nightcap.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Bethel struck quick with a run in the first inning but left a run in scoring position.
  • Indiana Wesleyan had their big inning in the second when they scored four runs on just two hits.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) led the second inning off with a walk and would score on a Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) single.
  • Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) followed with a walk and Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) drove them both home with a long home run to center for a 4-1 lead.
  • Haley Nixon crushed a lead-off home run in the sixth inning for the only other run of the game for the 5-1 final score.
  • Haley Nixon went to 6-4 this season with a complete game victory. She allowed the one run on six hits in 7.0 innings. Nixon struck out eight Pilots.
  • Alex Springer finished 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI while Kaisey Carson was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • The Pilots once again scored one first inning run for the early lead.
  • The Wildcats quickly responded with a five spot in the home half of the first inning. The five runs came across on six hits, with Olivia Rasmussen (JR/Des Moines, Iowa) driving home two on a double to deep center field.
  • Bethel closed to within two runs with a two run third inning for a 5-3 score.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored four more runs in the fourth inning to lead 9-3. Alex Springer doubled to deep center field with the bases loaded to plate two runs.
  • IWU needed just two runs in the fifth inning to gain a mercy rule victory. They had two on with two outs and Sara Kreitzer belted a walk-off home run for the 12-3 victory.
  • Sarah Kreitzer was 3-for-3 in the win with three runs and three RBI. She had two extra base hits with a double and a home run.
  • Kaisey Carson, Olivia Rasmussen, and Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) all had two hits as IWU outhit Bethel 13-6. Alex Springer, Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.), Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.) and Olivia Rasmussen all had two RBI.

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Friday at Wildcat Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
