MARION, Ind. -- Saint Francis (Ind.) went into the bottom of the seventh inning in both games but Indiana Wesleyan University softball ended each game with a walk-off win in a doubleheader sweep at Wildcat Field. High winds helped the offense on both sides as there was a combined 36 runs, 58 hits, and 14 extra base hits.

What Went Down (Game 1)

• Indiana Wesleyan trailed 5-2 as they came to bat in the third inning. The IWU offense exploded for four runs on six hits to take a 6-5 lead.
• Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.), Gabby Bogear (SR/Sacramento, Calif.), Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.), and Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) each had one RBI in the third inning.
• The Cougars quickly responded with a three run fourth inning to reclaim the lead at 8-6.
• The Saint Francis lead held until the bottom of the seventh inning.
• With two on and one out, Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) doubled deep down the left field line to tie the score 8-8.
• Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) followed with the walk-off single as pinch runner Ellen DeYoung (JR/Redlands, CA) crossed the plate for the game-winning run.
• Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) was excellent in relief as she earned the win for the Wildcats. She did not allow a run on two hits in 3.0 innings. She struck out five Cougars.
• The Wildcats pounded out 18 hits in the win. Seven different Wildcats had a multi-hit game.
• Sara Kreitzer and Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) both had three hit games.
• Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) finished 2-for-5 with a home run to lead off the game.
• Kelsey Meyers, Abby White (SR/Georgetown, Texas), Allison Bexell, and Haley Nixon all finished with two hits as well.
  
   

What Went Down (Game 2)

• Saint Francis seemed to have game two wrapped up in the first inning with an eight run inning.
• Indiana Wesleyan cut into the deficit in the third inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Alex Springer and a second home run from Kelsey Meyers for an 8-3 score.
• Kaisey Carson hit a home run to lead-off the fourth inning. Abby White contributed an RBI single, Allison Bexell crushed an RBI double, and Gabby Bogear had a sac fly as suddenly Indiana Wesleyan trailed by just one, 8-7.
• Kelsey Kooistra scored the game-tying run in the fifth inning on a Saint Francis error.
• Erica Smith drilled a home run in the sixth inning as the Cougars regained the lead at 9-8.
• Alex Springer tied the game 9-9 on a one out single in the seventh inning.
• Abby White led off the bottom of the eighth inning and reached on an error. Pinch runner Ellen DeYoung scored the game-winning run on a one-out double from Haley Nixon.
• Haley Nixon pitched the entire game and gave up 9 runs -- 5 earned -- on 12 hits in 8.0 innings. There were four unearned runs as the Indiana Wesleyan defense committed four errors.
• The Wildcats added 16 more hits in game two. Five Wildcats had multi-hit games.
• Alex Springer, Gabby Bogear, and Haley Nixon all had three-hit games while Kaisey Carson and Kelsey Meyers each tallied two hits.
• Alex Springer, Kaisey Carson, and Kelsey Meyers all belted home runs. Haley Nixon contributed two doubles.

• Indiana Wesleyan hosts Bethel (Ind.) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in a Crossroads League doubleheader at Wildcat Field. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Mishawaka on Thursday but home dates were switched and moved up one day due to the weather forecast.
