HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan University softball suffered a pair of losses at Huntington (Ind.) on Saturday. The Huntington bats were able to plate 14 runs in the two games as Indiana Wesleyan falls to 10-6 on the season.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) put Indiana Wesleyan in the lead early with a 2-run home run in the first inning.
  • Huntington responded with two in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning for a 5-2 HU lead.
  • In the sixth inning, Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) and Abby White (SR/Georgetown, Texas) each hit sac flies that closed the deficit to 5-4.
  • Two Huntington errors in the seventh inning allowed Indiana Wesleyan to tie the game 5-5. The second of those fouls came when Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.) grounded out to second base for what seemed to be the final out. But a HU error on the play allowed Alex Springer to cross the plate for the tying run.
  • Natalie McGuire came through in the clutch for the Foresters with a two-out RBI double in the ninth for the walk-off win.
  • Indiana Wesleyan had 11 hits in the loss and were led by Alex Springer with a 3-for-3 performance and Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) who was 2-for-5. Springer had a home run, a double, two walks, two RBI, and two runs scored while Carson had a double and two runs scored.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) pitched a complete game in the loss. She allowed six runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out five.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan was limited to six hits in the loss. Kaisey Carson and Alex Springer each had two hits in the game.
  • Huntington pulled away early with four runs on four hits in the first inning.
  • HU added another run in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning. Their run in the sixth inning brought the mercy rule into effect with the 8-0 score.
  • Kaisey Carson suffered the loss as she started the game and allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits in 4.0 innings. Janessa Guevara (SR/Lathrop, Calif.) gave up one run in 1.2 innings.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan plays their home opener on Tuesday against Saint Francis (Ind.). First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
