Softball Clubs Four Home Runs in Sweep of Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball showcased their bats on Friday with 15 runs and 4 home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Siena Heights in Adrian, Michigan. The wins move the Wildcat win streak to six in a row.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) led off the game with a home run to give Indiana Wesleyan the early 1-0 advantage.
  • Siena Heights took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the third inning on three hits.
  • Indiana Wesleyan tied the score 3-3 in the fifth inning on a Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) two-run double.
  • Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) connected on the game-winning sac fly in the seventh inning while Kelsey Meyers followed with a second sac fly for a 5-3 lead.
  • The Wildcats outhit the Saints 11-4.
  • Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) pitched a complete game for the victory. She allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four.
  • Kaisey Carson was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and one RBI.
  • Amber Roth (SO/Shipshewana, Ind.) was 2-for-3 at the plate while Kelsey Meyers finished with three RBI.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan jumped out in front with a 7-0 lead with one run in the third inning and six in the fourth inning. Kaisey Carson had the big hit with a 3-run home run in the six run fourth inning.
  •  Siena Heights countered with a three run fourth inning and one more run in the fifth to close to 7-4.
  • Alex Springer gave the Wildcats some more breathing room with two out, two run single in the sixth inning for the 9-4 advantage. IWU added another run in the seventh for the 10-4 final score.
  • Indiana Wesleyan outhit Siena Heights 13-4. There were 10 Wildcats with at least one hit in the winning effort.
  • Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Kaisey Carson and Kelsey Meyers each clubbed a home run to give Indiana Wesleyan three bombs in the win. Carson had three RBI.
  • Janessa Guevara (SR/Lathrop, Calif.) was the winning pitcher. She gave up four runs on three hits in 5.0 innings. Guevara walked five and struck out three. Carlie Weaver (SO/Brownsburg, Ind.) did not allow a run in 2.0 innings of relief.

  • Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League play tomorrow at Huntington (Ind.). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Huntington, Indiana.
