UPLAND, Ind. -- No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan University softball swept Taylor (Ind.) in the opening Crossroads League games for both teams. The IWU-TU Rivalry Games sponsored by Marion General Hospital was contested at Taylor in Upland, Indiana.

What Went Down (Game 1)

• Kaisey Carson (JR/Avon, IN) scored the first run on a Kelsey Meyers (SR/Brea, Calif.) RBI single in the first inning. The run would be the game-winner.
• Kaisey Carson came to bat again in the second inning and delivered a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.
• Jenny Sharpe (SR/Dayton, Ohio) scored in the fifth inning for a 4-0 advantage on a ground ball off the bat of Allison Bexell (SR/Avon, Ind.).
• Darcella Blakey (SO/Indianapolis, IN) hit a ball back to the pitcher but she bobbled the attempt which allowed Kelsey Kooistra (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) to score for the fifth and final run of the game.
• Haley Nixon (SO/Bristol, Ind.) earned the complete game shutout. She allowed just five hits and one walk in 7.0 innings.
• Indiana Wesleyan outhit Taylor 8-5 and was led by Kaisey Carson with a 3-for-3 performance. She scored a run and had two RBI.
  
   

What Went Down (Game 2)

• Indiana Wesleyan had to come from behind in the second game as single runs in each of the first two innings gave Taylor the 2-0 lead.
• Sara Kreitzer (JR/Ashland, Ohio) and Alex Springer (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) tied the game in the third inning as each clubbed solo home runs.
• IWU took their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. After the first two batters were retired, Sara Kreitzer kept the inning alive with a single which was followed by an Alex Springer 2-run home run on a full count. IWU now led 4-2.
• Taylor cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth inning.
• Kaisey Carson slugged the fourth home run of the game for the Wildcats in the top of the seventh inning. That run would be critical as Taylor scored one in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 outcome.
• The Trojans stranded the game-tying and game-winning runs in scoring position to end the game.
• Taylor outhit Indiana Wesleyan 11-7.
• Alex Springer was 2-for-3 with two home runs, one walk, three RBI, and two runs scored.
• Sara Kreitzer finished 2-for-4 at the dish with a home run, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
• Kaisey Carson was the winning pitcher as she gave up four runs in a 7.0 inning complete game.
