Mahurin, Peters Lead Men?s Basketball Past Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball won 99-91 on the road at Marian (Ind.) to complete their pre-Christmas Crossroads League schedule unbeaten and head into the holiday league break as the only 4-0 team in the league. Lane Mahurin and Bob Peters combined for 51 points on Tuesday as the Wildcats won their ninth straight game.

  • Lane Mahurin tied a career-high with four blocks and the Wildcats easily had their best night this season with nine blocks. IWU had four blocks on November 1 vs. Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) and had two or less blocks in every other game before tonight. It is the most blocks in a game for Indiana Wesleyan since they had nine blocks vs. Aquinas (Mich.) on November 7, 2014.
  • Marian held a 12-10 lead early but a 14-0 Indiana Wesleyan run gave them a 24-10 lead midway through the opening half.
  • Indiana Wesleyan did not trail over the final 35 minutes of the game. IWU led by as many as 21 points (60-39) early in the second half on a Jacob Johnson bucket.
  • Marian closed the deficit to as close to five points (85-80) with less than four minutes remaining but IWU scored four straight points to deflect the MU run.

  • Indiana Wesleyan returns to Luckey Arena for non-league action on Friday vs. Ohio Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and it is the final Wildcat basketball home game until January 7.
