Women?s Basketball 24-Game Win Streak vs. Goshen Snapped

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Despite a strong performance by the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball bench on Wednesday night host Goshen (Ind.) won 75-67 in Crossroads League play. The IWU bench scored 32 points but Goshen countered with 68 points from their starting lineup and a plus-22 advantage on the glass in a game between teams with one league loss.

  • Goshen opened the scoring with the first six points and did not trail the entire game.
  • The Maple Leafs built their lead to 22-8 as the first quarter came to an end.
  • A Goshen 13-1 run that lasted from the end of the first quarter and spilled into the second quarter pushed the GC lead to 17 points at 25-8.
  • The Maple Leafs took a 35-25 lead into halftime.
  • Goshen increased their advantage to 54-39 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Sofia Sears sank a pair of free throws with 2:27 left in the game as Goshen earned a 68-50 lead. The 18 point cushion was the largest of the night.
  • Michelle King (SR/Lakeland, Fla.) scored a career-high 15 points. Her previous best was seven points earlier this season. She was 7-of-13 from the field and she also pulled down six rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
  • Carlee Cottrell (SR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) scored a team-best 16 points and she connected on three 3-pointers.
  • Goshen held a 46-25 advantage in rebounds and GC pulled down 21 offensive boards.
  • The Maple Leafs took 35 free throws attempts and the Wildcats went to the line 16 times.

     

Extra! Extra!

  • Indiana Wesleyan had won 24 straight games against Goshen. The last Goshen win was March 2004 in the Mid-Central College Conference Championship game.
  • Indiana Wesleyan starters scored 35 points while the IWU bench finished with 32 points. Meanwhile, Goshen starters scored 68 points and their bench finished with just 7 points.
