MARION, Ind. -- Lakan Hasser-Smith drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer as No. 3 Marian (Ind.) shocked Luckey Arena and No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball in a 51-48 final. Marian overcame a 10 point deficit late in the third quarter to remain perfect in the Crossroads League.

What Went Down

• Marian opened up the game with a basket on their first possession but Indiana Wesleyan responded with a 15-5 run to lead 15-7.
• The Knights chipped away at the eight point deficit and would tie the score at 22-22 with 3:16 left in the second quarter.
• Indiana Wesleyan closed out the first half with the final six points to lead 28-22 at the break.
• The Wildcats earned the largest lead of the night late in the third quarter when Haley Woodruff (JR/Evansville, Ind.) sank a pair of free throws for a 42-32 lead.
• The Knights went on a 16-6 run to tie the game 48-48 with 11 seconds remaining.
• Indiana Wesleyan had a chance to hold the ball for the last possession. But Marian had three fouls to give and Indiana Wesleyan took the ball out of bounds with 3.9 seconds left.
• Jessica Brown (SR/Greenfield, Ind.) drove the base line but stepped out of bounds with 1.1 seconds remaining.
• Marian called a timeout and advanced the ball to their end of the floor. The pass came in bounds to Lakan Hasser-Smith who turned around at the 3-point arc and her shot went in at the buzzer. The officials checked the video and confirmed the shot was out of her hand before the clock ran out.
• The final shot gave Marian its first lead since 2-0.
• Marian outscored Indiana Wesleyan 17-6 in the fourth quarter.
• Jessica Brown tied a season-high with 15 points. She scored 11 in the first half.
• Kelsey Key (JR/Anderson, Ind.) was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 14 points. She was perfect on eight free throw attempts.
• Lakan Hasser-Smith led Marian with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
