Men?s Basketball Picks Up Road Win at Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball held serve in the crowded Crossroads League title chase with a 72-62 win at Huntington (Ind.). Indiana Wesleyan is one of three teams now tied for second place and just one game back of the leader Saint Francis (Ind.).

What Went Down

  • Huntington scored the game’s first bucket but that lead held for just 15 seconds. It was the only lead for Huntington in the entire game.
  • An early 7-0 spurt for the Wildcats increased their advantage to 15-6. That nine point lead tied for the largest of the first half. The other nine point lead came at the end of the half as IWU took a 37-28 lead into halftime.
  • Indiana Wesleyan used a 15-0 run which started in the first half and lasted into the second half to gain a 45-28 lead.
  • Grant Evans (SO/Selma, Ind.) drilled a 3-pointer with 12:14 to play for a 55-37 lead. The 18 point cushion was the largest of the afternoon.
  • The last 12 points of the game were free throws which came in the final 3:04.
  • Lane Mahurin (JR/Rockville, Ind.) had game-highs of 20 points and 7 rebounds. He was 8-of-14 shooting.
  • The two teams combined to shoot 28-of-32 from the free throw line.
  • Jonny Marlin (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) added 12 points and 5 assists while Bob Peters (JR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) finished at 10 points and 5 assists. Nate Bubash (JR/Munster, Ind.) scored 10 points off the bench.
  • Derek Hinen led Huntington with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting.
  • Indiana Wesleyan tallied 21 assists on 26 field goals made.

  • Indiana Wesleyan has won six straight games in the series with Huntington.
  • The 10 point win ends a streak of three straight games that Indiana Wesleyan won by 30 or more points over Huntington.
