Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Luckey Arena was rocking Saturday evening and they were treated to a 3-0 victory by Indiana Wesleyan University over IU Kokomo.
There were nearly zero seats left in Luckey Arena as it hosted one of the largest crowds to see a volleyball match. The energetic crowd was witness to a 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 win for Indiana Wesleyan.
“The crowd was electric,” said IWU head coach Candace Moats. “It just popped our girls up because when we walked into the gym it felt like we were at a basketball game. Everybody was here and everybody was enthusiastic. It helped so much and we are so grateful. All these people came and cheered us on and it was awesome.”
Despite the win in three sets, Lucey Arena saw an exciting match between two very good teams. Indiana Wesleyan is ranked No. 17 in the NAIA and has won six straight matches. IU Kokomo entered play today with a 10-1 record.
“IU Kokomo played great volleyball today,” said Moats. “This was a very high level match the way both teams played against each other. They were great competition and they really brought the best out of us.”
Indiana Wesleyan featured a balanced offensive attack with five players recording seven or more kills. Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) had 13 kills with a .545 attack percentage. Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) finished with nine kills and Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) ended the night with eight kills. Kristin Predajna (SR/Fishers, Ind.) and Sarah Collicott (JR/West Lafayette, Ind.) each had seven kills and Collicott earned a .583 kill percentage.
Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 22 kills and had eight digs while Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) totaled 21 kills and nine digs.
Bucknor and Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) each had two solo blocks to account for the four Indiana Wesleyan blocks. Banner Rodgers (SO/Carrollton, Texas) tallied 17 digs and Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) had 14.
“I was so proud of our performance. It was definitely our breakout game. This one was the most organized, most organized, and cohesive match we have had this year. We just knew we were going to go out there and play great volleyball and that is what happened.”
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League competition at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as they host Grace (Ind.) in Luckey Arena.
