Indiana Wesleyan trailed 1-0 but scored the final two tallies to earn their first Crossroads League victory of the season. IWU is now 4-5-1 this season and 1-1-1 in league play. Bethel falls to 2-8-1 and 0-2-0 in the league.
"Tonight was a gritty comeback team victory that tested our resolve after Saturday's draw against Grace," said IWU head coach Tim Strader. "We definitely have another level, but are happy to walk away with the three points in league play this evening on the road."
Kylee Shipley put the Pilots ahead 1-0 in the 13th minute. But the Wildcats responded in the 24th minute as Kaitlin Gishwiller scored her second goal of the season. The score remained 1-1 as the teams headed into halftime.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to pressure the Bethel defense in the second half as they outshot the Pilots 10-5 in the period. The offensive pressure finally broke the Bethel backline when Tia Sanford (FR/La Habra, Calif.) scored a breakaway goal in the 72nd minute for the 2-1 advantage.
"I was very proud of how the team responded in the second half as they stuck to our game plan," stated Strader. "It was great to see two of our newcomers Kaitlin and Tia get rewarded for their hard work tonight."
The Wildcats outshot the Pilots 15-9 in the match and held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Alex Seabeck (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) collected four saves for IWU as she earned the win in net.
