Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Nothing went right for Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball during the first two games against Bethel (Ind.) in a match that was played inside Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats struggled to find any consistency and fell in a 0-2 hole to the Pilots. But the Wildcats overcame the deficit to win three straight games and win the match 3-2 by scores of 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-13.
“There was a composure that had to happen to do what we did,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “I’m proud of that, of the fight and the heart.”
Indiana Wesleyan (14-3, 7-1 CL) had nine errors in the first game with a .068 attack percentage. IWU did improve that rate in the second game but only managed 10 kills as they fell in the 0-2 hole.
“There’s a reason you play five games,” continued Moats. “You are supposed to get better as you go and you are supposed to figure out things as you go.”
The Wildcats closed out a close third set before winning the fourth set to set up a fifth and decisive game five. The set was tied 13-13 before two Wildcat kills finished off the come-from-behind victory.
Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) led all players with 16 kills and a .314 attack percentage while Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) added 13 kills and Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) contributed 12 kills. Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) and Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 57 IWU kills. Five Wildcats served six aces and Kelly Cypher (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) led the team with two aces.
Indiana Wesleyan earned 96 digs in the victory which featured five Wildcats with double digit kills. Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) led all players with 26 digs, Lindsay Rogan (JR/Champaign, Ill.) earned 16 digs, and Workman had 15. Cypher and Holler each had 14 digs.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow afternoon with another home match against Huntington (Ind.). The match begins at 3 p.m. in Luckey Arena
