Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer was unable to hold a halftime lead as host Marian (Ind.) scored two goals in the second half to beat Indiana Wesleyan 2-1 in the Crossroads League opener for both teams in Indianapolis, Indiana.
MU’s Marianne Sergi tied the score 1-1 in the 57th minute when she was successful on a penalty kick. Less than eight minutes later Logan Bowling gave Marian the lead with a goal in the 64th minute.
Lizzie Rittenhouse (JR/Marion, Ind.) scored the only first half goal for the Wildcats with a mark in the ninth minute of play for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. The unassisted goal came from eight yards out and beat the Knight keeper to the far post.
Indiana Wesleyan continued their string of matches where they have outshot the opponent. This evening, Indiana Wesleyan outshot Marian 16-9 with eight shots in both halves. IWU had five shots on goal while Marian put three on target. Indiana Wesleyan keeper Alex Seabeck (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) made one save as she was in net for all 90 minutes.
The Wildcats fall to 3-5-0 this season and 0-1-0 in the Crossroads League. The Knights improve to 6-3-0 and 1-0-0 in league play.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Saturday night as they host No. 8 Grace (Ind.) at Wildcat Field.
