Box Score 2 DAYTON, Tenn. -- Day two finished just like the first day of play for Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball as they earned another split at the Bryan College Preseason Bash in Dayton, Tennessee.
Indiana Wesleyan won the morning match against #RV St. Catharine’s (Ky.) by a 3-0 score before losing 3-0 in the afternoon contest against No. 20 Coastal Georgia. On Friday, Indiana Wesleyan took a 3-1 win against #RV Bryan (Tenn.) and fell 3-0 to No. 4 Viterbo (Wis.).
"This tournament was an excellent challenge for our team to grow and develop and move forward,” said Wildcat head coach Candace Moats. “The ladies played with heart and perseverance as they were challenged in their growth. I am so proud of how they stayed together and kept an optimistic outlook."
The opening match with St. Catharine’s saw Indiana Wesleyan stamp out a 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 victory.
Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) carried the Wildcats in the morning session with a match-best 13 kills. She hit .423 and contributed one solo block and one block assist. Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) chipped in eight kills while Tay Thomas and Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) both had seven kills. Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) assisted on 39 Wildcat kills while Kelly Cypher (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) accounted for three of the four IWU aces. Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) amassed a match-high 13 digs as the Wildcats had 44 in all.
Coastal Georgia won the top-20 battle in the final match for both teams at the Bryan Preseason Bash. Coastal Georgia won by scores of 25-14, 25-11, 25-22.
Cifaldi and Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) both had seven kills while Bucknor added six kills and Portera earned five kills. Workman assisted on 15 kills while Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) earned 11. Bucknor accounted for three block assists and Miller was credited with two block assists while Buck tallied a match-high 12 digs.
Indiana Wesleyan completes the first weekend of play with a 2-2 record. IWU will be challenged again next weekend at the Northwestern Invitational in Orange City, Iowa. Indiana Wesleyan will play four matches which includes contests against No. 25 Dordt (Iowa) and #RV Kansas Wesleyan.
