MARION, Ind. -- Both Indiana Wesleyan University softball and Huntington (Ind.) pulled out a win Friday night at Wildcat Field on the strength of a four run seventh inning to overcome a deficit.

Indiana Wesleyan scored four runs in the seventh inning of game one to secure a 7-5 victory. Huntington followed suit and scored four runs in the seventh inning of game to overtake Indiana Wesleyan 7-6 for the split.

Huntington was the home team in both games despite the doubleheader being played at Wildcat Field. Huntington Field was unplayable due to recent heavy rainfalls.

In the opening game, Indiana Wesleyan trailed 5-0 after four innings of play. Two runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth inning closed the deficit to 5-3 heading into the final frame. Sara Kreitzer (SO/Ashland, Ohio) was hit by a pitch to lead-off and Alex Springer (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) followed with a single. Emily Hastings (SO/Riverside, Ill.) singled to load the bases with nobody out. Allison Bexell (JR/Avon, Ind.) doubled to deep left-center field to tie the game and put two runners in scoring position. Amanda Brunner (SR/Miamisburg, Ohio) hit the game-winning sac fly to score Hastings and Cierra Liddick (FR/Marion, Ind.) followed with a second straight sac fly to score Bexell for the 7-5 lead.

With one on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Huntington hit a double to put the tying run on second base. But a ground ball to second base finished the inning and gave Indiana Wesleyan the 7-5 victory.

Carlie Weaver (FR/Brownsburg, Ind.) earned the win in relief as she did not allow a run in 3.0 innings of work. She gave up just one hit and one walk in that time. Starting pitcher Janessa Guevara (JR/Lathrop, Calif.) took a no-decision with five runs -- three earned -- in 4.0 innings.

Sam Hemming (SR/Russiaville, Ind.) was a perfect 4-for-4 with a run and one RBI. Springer was 2-for-3 with a walk while Bexell finished with two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Indiana Wesleyan took a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Huntington cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth inning but IWU stretched the lead back to three runs with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a 6-3 lead.

The Foresters were down to their last out with two runners on base when Weaver entered for starting pitcher Haley Nixon (FR/Bristol, Ind.). A singled scored the first run of the inning which also put the tying run on first base and the winning run at bat. Emily O’Leary was next up for Huntington and drilled a triple to deep right-center field to tie the game. But on the throw to third base the ball hit O’Leary and landed out of play allowing O’Leary to walk home for the winning score.

Weaver took the loss in relief as she surrendered two runs without recording an out. Nixon finished with a no-decision as she allowed five runs -- three earned -- on six hits and four walks in 6.2 innings.

The Wildcats earned eight hits in the loss with all the hits coming from a different player. Kelsey Kooistra (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored twice and Springer earned two RBIs.

Indiana Wesleyan plays again tomorrow with a home doubleheader vs. Taylor (Ind.). First game begins at 4 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
