Box Score 2 SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- No. 19-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University softball collected a Crossroads League road doubleheader sweep for the second time in as many days at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
Indiana Wesleyan swept Goshen on the road Monday and today defeated Spring Arbor 6-5 and 10-2. The 22 game win streak moves Indiana Wesleyan to 27-2 this season and 10-0 in the Crossroads League. Spring Arbor drops to 7-12 and 1-5 in league play.
The Wildcats trailed 3-2 in the opening game as they went to the fifth inning. A Kelsey Meyers (JR/Brea, Calif.) single tied the game and Alex Springer (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) followed with a 2-run home run for a 5-3 lead. Meyers hit a sac fly in the sixth inning for a very important sixth run. Spring Arbor plated two runs in the sixth inning to trail 6-5 but Haley Nixon (FR/Bristol, Ind.) entered to pitch the seventh and set the Cougars down in order for a save and an IWU victory.
Janessa Guevara (JR/Lathrop, Calif.) allowed five runs -- three earned -- in 6.0 innings on Tuesday. She walked five and struck out five.
Sara Kreitzer (SO/Ashland, Ohio) was 3-for-3 with a double while Meyers was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Amanda Brunner (SR/Miamisburg, Ohio) finished 2-for-3 with a walk and Gabby Bogear (JR/Sacramento, Calif.) reached base two times with a single and a walk.
In game two, Spring Arbor gained the early 2-0 lead after one inning. But from that point on it was all Indiana Wesleyan as they scored at least one run in each of the next four innings to win a 10-2 mercy rule in five innings.
The Wildcats hit four home runs in the win by Kreitzer, Emily Hastings (SO/Riverside, Ill.), and two from Springer. Springer was 2-for-2 with a walk, two home runs, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Allison Bexell (JR/Avon, Ind.) and Emily Hastings each finished with two hits while Brunner and Sam Hemming (SR/Russiaville, Ind.) each added a hit and a walk.
Nixon earned the win with two runs in 4.0 innings. She gave up six hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Carlie Weaver (FR/Brownsburg, Ind.) pitched a perfect fifth inning in relief.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home to Wildcat Field on Friday with a doubleheader against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). First pitch is at 3 p.m.
