Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball continues to gather wins as their doubleheader sweep at Goshen (Ind.) has the team on a 20-game win streak.
The Wildcats defeated the Maple Leafs 9-1 in five innings in the opening game and then earned a 12-3 victory in six innings in the nightcap. The Wildcats improve to 25-2 this season and 8-0 in Crossroads League play while the Maple Leafs drop to 0-19 and 0-8 in league play.
In the opening game, Indiana Wesleyan scored in four of the five innings they came to bat. IWU scored three runs in the top of the first inning for the early lead and scored four more times in the fifth inning to build an eight run lead for the five inning mercy rule
Amanda Brunner (SR/Miamisburg, Ohio) was 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs while Alex Springer (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and three RBIs. Allison Bexell (JR/Avon, Ind.) finished with a pair of hits while Sam Hemming (SR/Russiaville, Ind.) walked twice and scored twice. Indiana Wesleyan outhit Goshen 11-4.
Janessa Guevara (JR/Lathrop, Calif.) earned the victory with one run in 4.0 innings of work. She allowed three hits and one walk. Cierra Liddick (FR/Marion, Ind.) pitched the fifth inning and did not allow a run.
In the second game, Goshen scored a single run in the first inning and held the lead until the third inning. IWU scored three in the top of the third inning but Goshen tied the score 3-3 with two run in the home half of the third. Indiana Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings before completing the win with five runs in the sixth inning.
The Wildcats outhit the Maple Leafs 15-5 and were led by Hemming with a 3-for-4 game with a home run and five RBIs. Sara Kreitzer (SO/Ashland, Ohio), Jenny Sharpe (JR/Dayton, Ohio), and Meredith Scholle (JR/Ada, Mich.) all contributed two hits while Kaylynn Rosen (FR/Huntington, Ind.) smacked a solo home run.
Haley Nixon (FR/Bristol, Ind.) was the winning pitcher as she gave up three hits -- two earned -- in 5.0 innings. Carlie Weaver (FR/Brownsburg, Ind.) did not allow a run in one inning of relief.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to play tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a Crossroads League doubleheader at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
