Men?s Basketball Speeds Past Northwestern Ohio, 98-59

MARION, Ind. -- In a rout the No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team raced by Northwestern Ohio in a 98-59 victory on Tuesday night in Luckey Arena. IWU shot a blistering 71.9-percent in the opening half en route to a 27 point halftime advantage.

What Went Down

  • The Wildcats used a 17-2 run early in the game to pull away to a 21-8 lead. The Racers never got the deficit to under 10 the rest of the night.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored 22 of the last 28 points of the first half. Grant Evans (SO/Selma, Ind.) connected on a 3- pointer as the buzzer sounded to give IWU a 57-30 halftime lead.
  • The Wildcats shot 71.9-percent in the first half on 23-of-32 shooting. IWU hit on 8-of-13 3-pointers (61.5-percent).
  • A Josh Mawhorr (SR/Muncie, Ind.) bucket with 6:48 remaining led to the first Wildcat lead over 30 points at 83-52.
  • The 39 point margin of victory was the largest of the game.
  • Five Wildcats scored double digits. Bob Peters (JR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) had a game-high 20 points.
  • Jonny Marlin (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
  • Grant Evans scored 17 points, Josh Mawhorr had 16 points, and Lane Mahurin (JR/Rockville, Ind.) finished with 10 points.
  • Indiana Wesleyan had 22 assists on 34 made field goals.
  • The Wildcats tied a season-low with six turnovers.

  • “I was really pleased with our effort. I thought for 40 minutes we competed and statistically we were pretty good across the board. We got to the free throw line and got on the glass, we were pretty well balanced. I thought it was a great effort for 40 minutes.”  -- IWU head coach Greg Tonagel

  • Jonny Marlin had 8 assists in the first half as he finished with 10 overall. Marlin has 5 games of 10 or more assists this season and 13 overall in his two years at Indiana Wesleyan.
  • Indiana Wesleyan has won seven straight games since its only loss of the season. IWU has won six of them by 20 or more points and has a win margin of 32 points per game.
