Volleyball Advances to Crossroads League Semifinals

MARION, Ind. -- It took four games but No. 2-seed Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball dispatched No. 7-seed Saint Francis (Ind.) in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday night in Luckey Arena.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan won the first two games with ease for the 2-0 advantage. IWU won by scores of 25-19 and 25-10.
  • Saint Francis fought back in the third set to win 25-23. USF led by as many as eight at 12-4. Indiana Wesleyan closed to within three points at 23-20 but Saint Francis closed out the win in the set.
  • The Wildcats quickly built a lead in the fourth set and earned the 25-17 win for the 3-1 victory.
  • Indiana Wesleyan earned 10 blocks on Saturday and were led by Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) with one solo block and seven block assists. Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) added one solo block and three assists.
  • Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) led all players with 13 kills while Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) was the only other player with double digit kills with 11. IWU hit .293 as a team with Bucknor at .444 and Miller at .346.
  • Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) totaled 26 assists and Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) added 19 assists.
  • Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) and Lindsay Rogan (JR/Champaign, Ill.) were the only two players on either team with double digit digs. Buck had 15 digs and Rogan finished with 10.
  • The Wildcats served seven aces. Holler and Banner Rodgers (SO/Carrollton, Texas) each served two aces while Lindsay Rogan, Emily Workman, and Ashlen Buck each served one.

 

Coaches Corner

  • “I think the quarterfinals is always one of the games you just have to get through. It is difficult to play a team three times and that is what you see in tournament time. I am really proud that we just got through this game and we are ready for the semifinals against Huntington.”

 

Extra! Extra!

  • IWU head coach Candace Moats has led the Wildcats to 11 Crossroads League Tournament championships in 13 seasons. Indiana Wesleyan has won four straight.
  • Moats improves to 36-1 all-time at Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament.

  • Indiana Wesleyan will host No. 6-seed Huntington (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals. The match will be played in Luckey Arena.
