Volleyball Crushes Oakland City to Win NCCAA Regional

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team earned an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship by quickly defeating Oakland City (Ind.) 3-0 in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament championship match in Luckey Arena.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan opened the regional championship match on a 9-1 run. Oakland City would get no closer than six points the rest of the set.
  • The Mighty Oaks scored four of the first five points in the second set. The Wildcats responded with six of the next seven points to 10-5. The Mighty Oaks did not threaten the rest of the set.
  • Indiana Wesleyan cruised in the third set after leading 12-3.
  • Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) earned 12 kills and a .588 hitting percentage. Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) added 10 kills and a .412 hitting percentage.
  • Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) and Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) each had 18 assists.
  • IWU totaled nine total blocks. Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) and Kristin Predajna (SR/Fishers, Ind.) each had one solo block while Tay Thomas (SO/Suwanee, Ga.) added four block assists.

Extra! Extra!

  • The last time Indiana Wesleyan competed in the NCCAA National Championship was in 2010. Indiana Wesleyan went on to win the national title with a victory over Campbellsville (Ky.) in the championship match.

 

Next Time Out

  • The NCCAA National Championship will be held December 3-5 in Kissimmee, Florida. There will be 10 teams broken into two five-team pools with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the national semifinals.
