Volleyball Falls in Crossroads League Championship Match

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) won a tightly contested Crossroads League Tournament championship match over Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball in a 3-1 match. MVNU captures the Crossroads League automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship with the victory.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan won the opening set 25-19 and Mount Vernon Nazarene tied the match with a 25-21 win in the second set.
  • The Wildcats had a chance to take a 2-1 match lead but they failed to finish out the third set after leading 24-22. The Cougars scored six of the last eight points for the 28-26 win.
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene led 22-18 in the fourth set but Indiana Wesleyan scored four straight to tie the match at 22-22.
  • Indiana Wesleyan had two set points in the fourth game but failed to capitalize as MVNU won 28-26 to win the set and the match.
  • Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) had 13 kills and Kristin Predajna (SR/Fishers, Ind.) added 12 kills.
  • Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 28 Wildcat kills while Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) added 23 assists.
  • Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) finished with a match-best 35 digs. Lindsay Rogan (JR/Champaign, Ill.) added 16 digs and Banner Rodgers (SO/Carrollton, Texas) earned 11 digs.
  • Indiana Wesleyan had seven blocks vs. MVNU. Morgan Miller and Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) each had one solo block and two block assists.

  • In 14 years as the Wildcat head coach, Candace Moats is 37-2 in the Crossroads League Tournament. She has led the Wildcats to 11 tournament championships and 2 runner-up finishes.
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene ends the Indiana Wesleyan run of four straight league tournament championships.

 

Next Time Out

  • Most likely the Wildcats will not receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship. If IWU does not receive a bid, they will host the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. Dates and times for the regional tournament will be announced early next week.
