Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball earned a pair of high caliber wins on Friday during the first day of competition at the Davenport Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Indiana Wesleyan started the afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Cardinal Stritch (Wis.). The team from Milwaukee, Wisconsin is receiving votes in the latest edition of the NAIA Top-25 Poll. Indiana Wesleyan followed with a 3-1 victory over No. 25 Carroll (Mont.).
“I was so proud of our ladies today,” said Wildcat head coach Candace Moats. “The courage and will to win was tremendous.”
Indiana Wesleyan had little issues in dispatching Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in a rematch of the 2014 NAIA National Championship Opening Round match. Indiana Wesleyan held sizable leads in each set as they won by scores of 25-7, 25-20, 25-15.
Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) was phenomenal in the three set victory as she accumulated 17 kills with a .640 attack percentage. She also assisted on three different blocks.
Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) earned eight kills with a .500 attack percentage while Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) also had eight kills with a .304 attack percentage. Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) finished with seven kills plus two solo blocks and four block assists. Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) had a match-high 25 assists while Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) added 13 assists.
In the victory over Carroll, Indiana Wesleyan won by scores of 25-16, 26-24, 13-25, 26-24.
Cifaldi earned a team-best 15 kills in the victory over Carroll. Miller contributed 14 kills with a .367 attack percentage and Sarah Collicott (JR/West Lafayette, Ind.) added 11 kills and a .346 attack percentage. Workman assisted on 27 Indiana Wesleyan kills and Holler earned 26 assists.
Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) tallied 19 digs and two service aces while Lindsay Rogan (JR/Champaign, Ill.) had 18 digs. The Wildcats had four blocks and was led by Bucknor with one solo block and two block assists.
“Several of the players found themselves scoring high in the stats,” stated Moats. “It was a team effort tonight. Way to go Wildcats!”
Indiana Wesleyan completes the Davenport Invitational on Saturday with two more matches. Indiana Wesleyan opens against #RV Grand View (Iowa) at 10 a.m. and then completes the weekend against host Davenport (Mich.) at 4 p.m.
