Volleyball Moves One Step Closer to League Championship

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball dispatched host Huntington (Ind.) 3-1 on Saturday in Huntington, Indiana by scores of 25-15, 25-13, 23-25, 25-23. Indiana Wesleyan can clinch a share of the Crossroads League championship in the regular season finale at home on Wednesday.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan quickly built a 2-0 lead on Saturday with wins of 25-15 and 25-13. But Huntington tightened up and forced a fourth set with a 25-23 win and then pushed IWU to a 25-23 set.
  • Five Wildcats hit double digit kills for a balanced attack. Kristin Predajna (SR/Fishers, Ind.) led all players with 12 kills while Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.), Sarah Collicott (JR/West Lafayette, Ind.), and Kylie Portera (JR/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) all contributed 11 kills. Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) had 10 kills and Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) just missed double digit kills with 9.
  • Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) and Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) both tallied 30 assists.
  • The Wildcats amassed 99 digs on Saturday. Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) earned a match-best 32 digs while Banner Rodgers (SO/Carrollton, Texas) finished with 16 and Lindsay Rogan (JR/Champaign, Ill.) had 13.
  • Indiana Wesleyan served four aces. Rogan had a pair of aces while Buck and Rodgers each served one.
  • The Wildcats totaled five team blocks and Remy Bucknor played a part in each of them. Bucknor had two solo blocks and three block assists.

 

Extra! Extra!

  • Mount Vernon Nazarene ended their Crossroads League slate on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Bethel (Ind.) to finish at 17-1 in league play. Indiana Wesleyan improved to 16-1 with tonight’s win and a win against Goshen (Ind.) in the season finale on Wednesday will earn Indiana Wesleyan a share of the regular season league title. IWU has won the past three league championships.

 

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts Goshen at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4 on Senior Night in Luckey Arena. An IWU win would clinch a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship.
