Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Wednesday night started a stretch of four league matches to finish the regular season as Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball cruised past Saint Francis (Ind.) 3-0 in Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats collected the win 25-12, 25-14, 25-11 to improve to 25-7 overall this season and 14-1 in the Crossroads League. The Cougars fall to 10-22 and 5-11 in the league.
“We are trying to play for a league championship,” said IWU head coach Candace Moats. “We cannot control what Mount Vernon Nazarene does but we can certainly control what we do. Each team that we face now in this final stretch is our next hurdle to get what we want to do.”
Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) are in a virtual deadlock atop the Crossroads League as each team has one loss. MVNU is 15-1 in the Crossroads League and has two matches left to play.
Indiana Wesleyan scored the first six points tonight and was never threatened by Saint Francis. The match took one hour to play.
“Executing and playing our game and working super hard was the plan for tonight,” continued Moats. “It was about what are we going to do to get in position. And after tonight we are putting ourselves in a really good position. If we take care of our part maybe something happens on the other end for us.”
Indiana Wesleyan travels to Bethel (Ind.) on Friday night and Huntington (Ind.) on Saturday. IWU ends the regular season next Wednesday night at Luckey Arena against Goshen (Ind.). If Indiana Wesleyan wins all three matches they will clinch at least a share of the Crossroads League championship.
