Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer surrendered a pair of second half goals as No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) remained unbeaten in league play with a 2-0 victory Wednesday night in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
"I was very proud of our student-athletes tonight as they stepped up against a quality and highly ranked side and played IWU Soccer," said Wildcat head coach Tim Strader. "Our seniors lead the way this evening with their leadership and our underclass man made the important strides we needed from them as we take another big step towards preparing for playoffs."
Bethany Balcer did the damage for Spring Arbor (14-2-1, 8-0-0 CL) with both of their goals to give her 18 on the season. Balcer is tied for sixth in the NAIA in goals scored this year.
Balcer scored the eventual game-winner in the second half with a score in the 50th minute. She added her second tally of the evening in the 72nd minute for the 2-0 cushion.
Indiana Wesleyan (7-8-1, 3-4-1 CL) held strong in the first half and withstood the Spring Arbor attack as neither team found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. Spring Arbor outshout Indiana Wesleyan 20-4 in the match with SAU taking 10 shots in each half. Spring Arbor held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
"I do believe that sometimes a loss can be a win," said Strader. "And tonight was a great example of that as we matured and showed the resolve and grit we have been asking of this group."
Alex Seabeck (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) was in net for the Wildcats for all 90 minutes. She faced eight shots and make six saves.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home on Saturday for the regular season finale. IWU hosts No. 18 Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
"As a team we are looking forward to honoring some incredible seniors on Saturday who have poured so much of themselves into our program and helped establish what it means to be a Wildcat," concluded Strader. "Their investment on the field, in the classroom and most importantly in their walk with God is to be commended and we look forward to sharing a special night with them in front of our supporters and families."
