Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball became the first team to hand Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) a loss this season as the Wildcats won 3-1 on Friday evening in Luckey Arena.
Mount Vernon Nazarene won their first 23 matches of the season before suffering the loss tonight. MVNU defeated Indiana Wesleyan 3-1 earlier this season in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
“This was probably our most prepared front that we came out in,” said Wildcat head coach Candace Moats. “Everybody was committed and worked super hard. I felt we needed our best game tonight to execute against such a great team. And it feels great to get this win, not just because it was against an undefeated team, but it showed how united we were.”
No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan improves to 20-5 overall this season and 11-1 in the Crossroads League. Mount Vernon Nazarene drops to 23-1 and 13-1 in league play.
A spirited crowd packed into Luckey Arena tonight to witness the battle between the top two teams in the Crossroads League. It was also a Pink Out night to bring awareness to cancer.
“I was so proud of my Administration and Physical Education in Sport class and for the hard work that they put in to market this match tonight,” added Moats. “I’m proud of the people that were in attendance and I am grateful for the fans that were here tonight.”
Remy Bucknor (JR/Euless, Texas) produced tonight with a match-best 12 kills with a .409 attack percentage. Kristin Predajna (SR/Fishers, Ind.) and Morgan Miller (SO/Goshen, Ind.) each added 11 kills, Bianca Cifaldi (JR/Itasca, Ill.) finished with 10 kills, and Sarah Collicott (JR/West Lafayette, Ind.) added nine kills.
Katey Holler (SR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 28 attacks while Emily Workman (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) accumulated 27 assists. Ashlen Buck (JR/Brazil, Ind.) amassed 27 digs and Holler totaled 13 digs. The Wildcats finished with five blocks tonight and were led by Miller with one solo block and two block assists.
“I am really grateful for all the girls,” stated Moats. “They were 100-percent all in tonight.”
Indiana Wesleyan plays again tomorrow afternoon as they host Taylor (Ind.) in Luckey Arena. The match begins at 3 p.m.
