Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- For the second straight game the top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team won a road game in the Crossroads League as they defeated Spring Arbor (Mich.) 69-60 in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Jonny Marlin (JR/Greenwood, Ind.), Josh Mawhorr (JR/Muncie, Ind.), and DJ Bettinger (SR/Richfield, Ohio) all scored in double figures as Indiana Wesleyan moves to 19-1 this season and 7-1 in the Crossroads League. Spring Arbor falls to 10-10 and 1-7 in league play.
Marlin led the Wildcats with 14 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Mawhorr added 13 points and 6 rebounds while Bettinger connected on 3 3-pointer for 11 points. Bob Peter and Jacob Johnson (FR/Mooresville, Ind.) each added seven points off the bench and Nate Bubash contributed six points and seven boards.
Spring Arbor scored the game’s first five points but Indiana Wesleyan responded with the next seven for a 7-5 lead. Spring Arbor did not lead the rest of the game. The rest of the first half witnessed four ties while the lead was never greater than five points. Indiana Wesleyan led 32-27 at the break.
The Cougars scored the first four points of the second half to close the gap to 32-31. But the Wildcats answered with eight consecutive points for a 40-31 advantage.
Midway through the second half Bob Peters (SO/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) scored on a layup to give the Wildcats its first double digit lead of the afternoon at 51-41. A Marlin basket with 6:16 remaining lifted the Wildcat lead to 60-46. The 14 point lead was the largest of the day. The Cougars could only get as close to seven points the rest of the way on a 3-point bucket with less than a minute to play as the Wildcats left Spring Arbor with a 69-60 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 43.1-percent (22 of 51) from the floor and 82.6-percent (19 of 23) from the foul line. Spring Arbor was limited to 36.8-percent (21 of 57) while they committed 18 turnovers.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home to Luckey Arena on Tuesday. IWU hosts Goshen (Ind.) at 7 p.m.
